Transport in the XXZ spin chain

SPICE Workshop on Quantum Spinoptics, June 18th - June 20th 2024

Sarang Goapalakrishnan

The XXZ spin chain is an integrable system with a sharp "phase transition" in its finite-temperature spin transport properties. This transition is tuned by the anisotropy of the interactions, and separates regimes of ballistic and diffusive spin transport. I will review how diffusive transport emerges in integrable systems and how it differs, in its fluctuations, from "normal" diffusion in chaotic systems. I will also briefly discuss the anomalous nature of transport at the isotropic point. If time permits I will discuss the surprising robustness of anomalous transport to integrability-breaking perturbations.
