SPICE Workshop on Spin textures: Magnetism meets Plasmonics, July 23rd - 25th 2024
Maxim Mostovoy
The magnetoelectric coupling in multiferroic materials allows for the electric control of magnetic states and topological defects, e.g. the electrically induced rotation of the skyrmion crystal in the chiral cubic Mott insulator, CuO2SeO3.[1,2] The electrical excitation of spin waves can be used for all-optical switching of the electric polarization in multiferroics with a spiral ordering.[3,4] The linear relation between the electric charge density induced by non-collinear spin textures through the inverse Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya mechanism and skyrmion charge density[5] makes possible to excite magnetic modes localized at topological defects electrically. I will show that the electromagnon absorption gives rise to resonant excitation of collective dynamics of magnetic skyrmions and merons with an oscillating electric field. The electric manipulation of topological magnetic defects in Mott insulators can find applications in magnetoelectric memory and logical devices.
