An overview of topological magnonics

SPICE Workshop on Quantum Geometry and Transport of Collective Excitations in (Non-)Magnetic Insulators, May 6th - 8th 2025

Paul McClarty

Magnons are the collective excitations of long-range ordered structures of interacting magnetic moments. In crystals there are band structures associated with these excitations that often support nontrivial geometric phases, Berry curvature and topological indices. In this talk I give an overview of our current understanding of the physical implications of these features of magnon bands. These include effects on magnon transport and spectroscopy that are closely connected to experiment.
