The Mainz Institute of Theoretical Physics

The MITP kindly offers their premises for the SPICE Workshops. It is located on the Campus of Johannes Gutenberg University in the immediate vicinity of the SPICE Center. It is easily accessible by a 30-minute train or car ride from Frankfurt International Airport (FRA).

Its newly opened seminar room, meeting area and offices provide a comfortable and functional working space for interdisciplinary scientific exchange. The facilities that can be used for workshops include:

  • wireless LAN in all rooms
  • 1 seminar room for about 42 people (seated or around 70 people without table (for poster sessions etc.) equipped with a beamer and several black and white boards.
  • a multi purpose meeting area with several black boards, a nice lounge atmosphere and a coffee bar
  • 32 individual workspaces
  • 5 offices for international guests
  • 4 larger offices for group work, discussions etc.
  • a printer/scanner

All offices have black boards and white boards, telephones for free national and international calls and WLAN.

How to travel to MITP

From Frankfurt International Airport to Mainz Main Station

From FRA Regionalbahnhof, take the regional train RE2 direction Koblenz, RE3 direction Saarbrücken or the city train S8 direction Wiesbaden to Mainz Hbf (Mainz Main Station).

You can find a time table at the train station on the RMV web page.

It takes about 30 minutes from Frankfurt Airport to Mainz Main Station.
From Mainz Hbf (Mainz Main Station), take tram lines 51 (platform A) or 53 (platform L) direction "Lerchenberg" or alternatively bus lines 54 / 55 / 75 / 650 and leave at the station "Friedrich-von-Pfeiffer-Weg". Then please walk straight along the university kindergarden towards MITP.
You don’t need to buy another ticket, as you Train ticket will be valid for the tram aswell.
If you didn’t arrive by train, please buy a short-hop-ticket (Kurzstreckenticket).

Taxi ranks are located outside Frankfurt Airport. It costs around 80-90€ to travel directly to MITP.
Or
Taxi ranks are located outside Mainz Main Station. It costs around 15-20€ to travel directly to MITP.
